Profile of a graduate

PROFILE OF THE DOCTORAL SCHOOL OF SOCIAL SCIENCES AT MARIA CURIE-SKŁODOWSKA UNIVERSITY IN LUBLIN GRADUATE

 

A graduate of the Doctoral School of Social Sciences at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University (UMCS) is a person who:

  • Has achieved the learning outcomes corresponding to qualification level 8 of the Polish Qualifications Framework (PQF),
  • Has completed the education programme of the Doctoral School of Social Sciences (SDNS),
  • Has carried out an individual research plan,
  • Has received a positive mid-term evaluation,
  • Has authored at least one scientific article published in a scientific journal or peer-reviewed conference proceedings, or one scientific monograph, or a chapter in such a monograph, or a work of artistic significance, following Article 186(1)(3) of the Law on Higher Education and Science,
  • Has submitted a doctoral dissertation.
 

Graduates of the Doctoral School of Social Sciences at UMCS possess advanced and up-to-date knowledge in their respective academic disciplines. They are proficient in using specialist terminology, including in a foreign language (at least at B2 level). They demonstrate a solid understanding of research methodology and the ability to plan, conduct, and apply research in academic work. These competencies include preparing and publishing scientific articles, as well as developing and delivering presentations at conferences, including international ones.

 

Graduates are aware of the importance of scientific collaboration at the regional, national, and international levels. They are prepared to transfer research results to the economic and social spheres. They possess the knowledge and skills necessary to obtain funding for scientific research, including preparing grant applications and managing research projects.

 

Graduates of SDNS UMCS are capable of planning and implementing both individual and team research projects, as well as responsibly leading research teams, including interdisciplinary and international ones. They demonstrate an awareness of the need to engage with the socio-economic environment and understand the importance of communication and knowledge exchange between science and practice.

 

Furthermore, graduates uphold the ethos of the academic and creative community, adhere to ethical standards in conducting research, and comply with legal regulations regarding intellectual property protection. They exhibit a professional attitude that promotes responsible conduct in the workplace and strive to enhance the quality and culture of cooperation in both academic and professional contexts.
