The recruitment procedure includes:
1) An admission interview concerning topics consistent with the academic discipline declared by the Candidate, in which they intend to prepare their doctoral dissertation, as well as the topics selected by the Candidate from among those listed in the recruitment announcement for the Doctoral School. The Candidate may propose their own research topic, provided it is at least partially aligned with the research areas pursued by the University units responsible for the following academic disciplines: biological sciences, chemical sciences, physical sciences, Earth and environmental sciences, and information and communication technology; or by IA PAS and IUNG-PIB, responsible for the discipline of agriculture and horticulture; or by ICSC PAS, responsible for the discipline of chemical sciences. During the interview, the Candidate shall deliver a short multimedia presentation (maximum 15 minutes), prepared in PowerPoint (.ppt/.pptx) or PDF format. The presentation should include: a profile of the Candidate, including academic achievements, motivation for undertaking education at the Doctoral School and choosing the specific research topic, and the innovative nature of the proposed research in the context of the current state of knowledge in the field. The Candidate should submit the printed copy of the presentation together with the documents referred to in § 2 section 4 of the Resolution on the recruitment to the Doctoral School of Quantitative and Natural Sciences. In the case of foreign Candidates who are unable to attend the interview in person at the University headquarters, the interview may be conducted via an online communication platform. In such cases, the Candidate shall send the presentation electronically in advance;
2) Evaluation of the achievements declared by the Candidate. The Candidate shall present a maximum of three achievements which they consider to be their most important, documented accomplishments related to the academic discipline in which they intend to prepare their doctoral dissertation, using the template available on the Doctoral School’s website. The Candidate may indicate the following types of achievements:
a) scientific articles published in journals or conference proceedings included in the current list of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education (MNiSW);
b) peer-reviewed scientific articles published in journals not included in the current MNiSW list;
c) monographs and chapters in monographs published by publishers included in the current MNiSW list;
d) participation in an international or national research project;
e) participation in an international or national research internship not included in a degree programme;
f) presentation of a paper by the Candidate at an international or national scientific conference,
g) authorship or co-authorship of a poster presented at an international or national scientific conference,
h) active participation in or co-organisation of science popularisation events,
i) other achievements and activities related to academic work in the disciplines offered by the Doctoral School of Quantitative and Natural Science.
2. The maximum number of points that may be obtained during the interview is 70. The following elements will be assessed during the interview:
1) The Candidate’s knowledge of the discipline in which they intend to prepare their doctoral dissertation, as well as the selected research topic chosen from among those published in the Doctoral School recruitment announcement or a self-proposed research topic meeting the requirements set out in section 1, point 1 – maximum 40 points.
2) The quality and substantive content of the presentation – maximum 20 points.
3) The Candidate’s ability to communicate in English at a functional level – maximum 10 points.
3. The Candidate may receive a maximum of 30 points for the evaluation of their academic achievements, with the following scoring awarded for individual achievements:
1) Scientific articles published in journals or conference proceedings included in the current list of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education (MNiSW) in which the Doctoral School of Quantitative and Natural Sciences operates with the assigned score of 100–200 points – 10 points, with an assigned score of 20–70 points – 7 points.
2) Peer-reviewed scientific articles published in journals not included in the current MNiSW list – 4 points.
3) Monographs and book chapters published in publishing houses included in the current MNiSW list – 5 points;
4) Participation in an international research project – 7 points.
5) Participation in a national research project – 5 points.
6) Participation in an international research internship not included in the study programme: – less than 30 days – 5 points, 30 days or more — 10 points.
7) Participation in a national research internship not included in the study programme– less than 30 days – 4 points, 30 days or more — 7 points.
8) Presentation of a paper by the Candidate at an international scientific conference – 7 points (+1 point for a distinguished presentation);
9) Presentation of a paper by the Candidate at a national scientific conference – 5 points (+1 point for a distinguished presentation);
10) Presentation of the poster at a national or international scientific conference – 4 points (+1 point for a distinguished poster);
11) Co-authorship of a paper or poster presented by another person at a national or international scientific conference – 3 points;
12) Active participation in or co-organization of science popularisation events – up to 3 points, regardless of the number of submitted activities (subject to the Committee’s assessment);
13) Other achievements and activities (including awards and distinctions, academic mobility such as within the Erasmus programme) related to scientific disciplines in which education is provided at the Doctoral School– up to 5 points (subject to the Committee’s assessment).
4. The maximum number of points a Candidate may obtain during the recruitment procedure is 100.
5. A ranking list shall be drawn up from among the Candidates who have obtained at least 40 points in the interview, within the applicable admission limit. The Candidate’s position on the ranking list shall be determined by the total number of points obtained.
