Recommendations from the signatories and initiators of the European Centre UMCS

prof. Yves Petit,

Director of the European University Centre,  University of Lorraine (Nancy, France)

The Master 2 'European Union Law' at the European University Centre in Nancy has already been offered in several other universities: Sofia (Bulgaria), Belgrade (Serbia), and Luxembourg (European Institute of Public Administration). Its potential is well demonstrated. It provides two diplomas: a Polish diploma and a French one, thus enhancing the chances of finding a job in Poland, given the presence of many French companies in the country.

Czesław Bartela,

Honorary Consul of the Republic of Poland in Nancy, one of the initiators of the creation of the European Centre in the UMCS

Nowadays, Poland is in great need of graduates with solid preparation for work in the structures of the European Union, international organisations, and local self-governments. They are needed both in the country and abroad. The newly-established course will be subject to a double degree, which will also allow future graduates to obtain a diploma from the European University Centre in Nancy, which was founded over 60 years ago, at the same time as the European Union was being founded, and is one of the oldest university centres with a "European vocation". This international vocation has already enabled the European Centre to educate many European Union commissioners, ministers from many European countries, as well as many political, economic, administrative, academic, and cultural decision-makers.

Frédéric Billet

Ambassador of France to Poland

I would like to encourage students to take advantage of a wide range of more than 70 double diplomas offered as part of cooperation between Polish and French universities. I am delighted that this opportunity is now also being offered by the UMCS - for the first time in this region of Poland. In the context of the emergence of European universities, such programmes and the increased mobility of students and academics create the opportunity to educate future ambassadors of Polish-French relations.

Laurent Henart

The Mayor of the City of Nancy

The City of Nancy, which is very committed to the town twinning agreement it has had with Lublin since 1988, very much welcomes the creation of the European University Centre in Lublin, a real gateway to a European career.

While this centre will help strengthen the links between Lublin and Nancy, it will also reinforce the relationship that our two cities have with Ukraine, in the hope of deepening the dialogue between cities and countries at the heart of Europe, in the service of Europe. This is a fine example of cooperation supported on the French side by the City of Nancy, the CEU in Nancy and the Polish Honorary Consulate in Nancy, who are involved in a European dialogue, as close to our citizens as possible.

The courses provided by the European Centre UMCS in Lublin will not only give students a solid grounding in international and EU law, but will also give them an international outlook and the intercultural skills that are essential for a European and international career.

The cooperation between the two European University Centres in Lublin and Nancy, involving the exchange of teachers and students, the hosting of student interns, conferences and seminars, is a perfect example of city diplomacy, which, combined with university diplomacy, conveys a message of hope for the EU and the values it stands for.

Krzysztof Żuk, PhD

Mayor of the City of Lublin

The cooperation between Lublin and Nancy, which was initiated more than 30 years ago, is bearing more and more fruit. It results in joint activities, projects and ventures. One of them is the establishment in 2018 of the European Centre UMCS as a joint Polish-French initiative. Two years later, thanks to the involvement of the academic centres of Lublin and Nancy, it was possible to create a unique degree course "International Law and European Union Law", further strengthening our partnership.

I hope that the new degree course at the UMCS will not only allow you to acquire specialist knowledge, but will also open you up to international dialogue and create broad professional prospects in the future.
