About the Laboratory

Laboratory of international memory studies (LIMES) is a part of the Institute of International Relations, UMCS. The laboratory leads a research project “Quest for the Past: Politics of History in the ‘United Europe’ and Around (Actors, Actions, Outcomes, end of the 1980s - 2020s), funded by the National Agency for Scholars Exchange (NAWA). Since 2021, the laboratory produced one monograph and about a dozen of scholarly articles in highly rated journals and collective volumes. The laboratory is a part of international network of memory studies centers, members of Memory Studies Association (MSA). In 2021 – 2023, the laboratory representatives took part in about thirty international conferences, seminars and workshops throughout the world.

In 2021 and 2023, the representatives of the laboratory obtained individual research grants from European University Institute (Florence) and from Amalia and Markus Wallenberg Foundation (Sweden)

Representatives of the laboratory deliver various courses in UMCS. In 2024, the laboratory starts MA program “Public History and International Relations”

The Head of Laboratory, Prof. Georgiy Kasianov, is a expert of the Observatory of History Teaching in Europe, Council of Europe.
