Polar Festival - Warsaw - report

On June 4, 2022, we had the pleasure of hosting in Warsaw at the Amphitheater of the Wolski Cultural Center at ul. Elekcyjna 17 at the Polar Festival. The event was organized as part of the EDU-ARCTIC.PL project coordinated by the Institute of Geophysics of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

During the Festival, the UMCS Polar Station in Calypsobyen in Spitsbergen was promoted both at the UMCS stand and during the lecture: "A unique place - Polar Station of the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University" - prof. Piotr Zagórski. There was also time to promote current scientific research as part of the NCBiR project with the acronym SPILOD. The Institute of Earth and Environmental Sciences was represented by our experienced Polar researchers: dr hab. Jan Rodzik, prof. UMCS and the head of this year's jubilee 30 UMCS Polar Expedition to Spitsbergen - dr hab. Piotr Zagórski, prof. UMCS and participant of the Expedition - Kamil Kultys, MA. Dr. hab. Michał Łuszczuk, prof. UMCS (Institute of Social and Economic Geography and Spatial Management) as a representative of the SUDEA project. Numerous research institutions related to polar research also participated in the Polar Festival, including: the Institute of Oceanology of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, the Polar Research Center, the Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Paleobiology of the Polish Academy of Sciences, and the University of Wrocław.

Apart from interesting speeches, the participants of the event had exhibitions, promotional stands, stands with educational games, VR goggles with 360-degree polar films and equipment used by polar explorers to work in the field.
