Insurance is a market institution, that is, one that has emerged under conditions of voluntary exchanges aimed at satisfying the needs of those who participate in them. Private health insurance should not be confused with public health insurance, which is part of the social policy of states. In fact, there are very many differences between the two, and it can even be said that the latter type of insurance is a negation of the former. The most important of these differences will be presented in this short essay.
