Aim of the course: The teaching offer is addressed to those interested in the issues of legal regulations regarding "cyber technology" problems in the broad sense. The aim of the course is to provide comprehensive knowledge on the essentials of rendering electronic services, database building and operation, website positioning, the operation of financial institutions involving the issues of cryptocurrencies and the use of blockchain technology, or social media regulations. The course is of interdisciplinary nature and combines legal issues with other domains in order to present the problems at issue in a broad context (such as technological, cultural and social contexts). It is addressed to foreign nationals, and the participants will be required to develop a project in groups to complete the course. Hence, the programme of the course comprises also project workshops. The teaching staff of the course is composed of  experienced specialists, researchers and professionals from UMCS and other academic centres.

The course shall be intended for:  

  • students of 1st- and 2nd-cycle degree programme;
  • students of single cycle degree programme;
  • doctoral students;
  • visiting students/fellows under international scholarship programmes;
  • young scholars up to 5 years after obtaining a PhD degree.

The course is intended especially for foreign nationals willing to broaden their knowledge and learn new practical skills in the area of law in cyberspace. The School of Law is intended for students (of all levels and programmes of studies), doctoral students, graduates as well as research and teaching staff representing the fields of study related to law, social sciences, security sciences, defence sciences, international affairs, political sciences, public policy and economics. The language of instruction will be English.

Course graduate profile (including qualifications obtained): The course offers the opportunity to improve their qualifications to students, graduates (including graduates of other majors than legal studies), researchers and professionals as well. It allows them to broaden their knowledge and thus give them a competitive advantage on the labour market. The course provides an opportunity of improving professional skills in the law of electronic commerce and regulations applicable to all Internet users, including business activities. The course graduate is intended to have insight into the basic institutions of national, EC and international law in the field concerned, to know the relationships between regulations at various levels, to know specialised terminology, know and understand the rules under which individuals, legal persons and other entities operate in electronic transactions, and institutions responsible for adherence to these rules. After completing the course, the participant will understand the need of continued learning in the field of applicable law in the scope concerned, will be able to independently analyse, construe and apply the law, will become an active participant in debates on the subjects discussed during the course, and will be able to explain the principles and  mechanisms according to which the Internet works.
