Zemborzycki Reservoir and the Bystrzyca River under the magnifying glass

We are pleased to announce that three members of our Institute, Dr hab. Stanisław ChmielDr Katarzyna Mięsiak-Wójcik and Dr Joanna Sposób are members of the intercollegiate team implementing the project "Zalew Zemborzycki and the Bystrzyca River under a magnifying glass - what dangers do they conceal? It is time to find out".

In the vote under the Academic Participation Budget 2023 of the Union of Higher Education Institutions in Lublin, the project was ranked second out of five proposals for funding. In addition to the above-mentioned hydrology specialists representing our Institute, participants in the grant will include staff and students from other Lublin universities UM, PL and UP.
The aim of the project is to comprehensively examine the water and sediment in the Zemborzycki Lagoon and the Bystrzyca River for contamination with such substances as drugs (including hormones), pesticides, heavy metals and cyanotoxins. In addition, acute toxicity, cardiotoxicity and neurotoxicity tests will be carried out in an embryonic zebrafish model for the substances found in the water samples in the greatest quantity.
Detailed information on the results and full project descriptions can be found on the ZUL website (in Polish):
