We warmly invite you to an open lecture by Prof. Jan Rodzik, titled “Why and How Gullies Form”, which will take place on 16 May 2025 at 5:00 p.m. in the small theatre hall of the Puławy Cultural Centre "Dom Chemika". During the meeting, Prof. Rodzik will present the mechanisms behind the formation and development of gullies, with particular emphasis on their presence in the loess landscape of the Lublin region. The lecture will also address the impact of human activity on terrain transformation, as well as the significance of gullies in environmental and geomorphological research. Prof. Jan Rodzik is a physical geographer and a professor in the Department of Hydrology and Climatology at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin. His research focuses on contemporary geomorphological processes, including soil erosion and the evolution of gully landforms. His academic interests also include polar environments, anthropogenic modifications of relief, and environmental analyses related to historical and prehistoric settlement. He is the author of numerous scientific publications in leading international journals, and his fieldwork has included multiple expeditions to Spitsbergen. In 2024, he was awarded the title of professor in the field of natural and exact sciences. He previously served as Head of the Roztocze Scientific Station of UMCS and is an Honorary Member of the Polish Geographical Society.
