Letter from Rector Elect to the Academic Community of UMCS

Dear Sir or Madam,

Colleagues, Students,

Members of the Academic Community of

Maria Curie-Skłodowska University,

On behalf of myself and my team, I would like to thank the electors who have decided to vote for our concept of University development. I invite also you, who supported the solutions proposed by prof. Robert Litwiński, to cooperate with us. Despite various views, we are a Community whose goal is the good of our Alma Mater. I care about the trust of all members of our community, openness in interpersonal relations, respect for academic tradition and strengthening of internal democratic procedures. This is the first promise that I intend to keep throughout the entire management of the University.

Thank you for many congratulations, words of support and declarations of cooperation. They are all important to me as they also come from declared supporters of the program of my recent Counter-candidate. Each member of our community should be involved in activities supporting the University, even if they have a different opinion on the direction of its development or otherwise imagines achieving their goals. In the academic environment, the most important to me are competences and reliable work. Resolving internal disputes should be done through dialogue, and the resolution of conflicts - through mediation and persuasion, and not by means of a sense of coercion or intimidation. But I would also like to emphasize that I will not tolerate behaviours that will violate the image of the University, introduce inequalities, stigmatize or cause a sense of injustice. The university is not only a place of respect for the law, freedom of scientific research and teaching, but also a mainstay of academic tradition. I'm going to be its guardian. The University's internal problems should be resolved as part of its autonomy, without the participation of external entities and institutions. I intend to strengthen democratic elements in the statutory procedure for appointing the management staff of Institutes and Faculties and ensure transparency and openness of the procedure for granting funds to University organizational units.

Ladies and Gentlemen, we are close to the exam sessions, holidays and preparations for the new academic year. For our students and doctoral students it will be a time of rest and gathering strength to continue learning - hopefully in the normal, traditional mode; It will be a time of hard work for me and my team. I will present a detailed program of activities for the upcoming academic year during the inauguration of the academic year.

For now, I wish you a fruitful session and a pleasant rest.

With best regards
