4th SPEAC Workshop

On 13th September 2021, an online meeting under the Jean Monnet Network Project (SPEAC) was held. The 4th workshop gathered participants from South Korea (Korea University), Singapore (EU Center in Singapore at Nanyang Technological University), Sweden (Uppsala University), Germany (Bochum Ruhr University), and Poland (Maria Curie Sklodowska University).

Scholars from Europe and Asia discussed draft chapters prepared for the forthcoming monograph concerning EU-Asia connectivity. Prof. Paweł Pasierbiak and prof. Tomasz Białowąs from the Faculty of Economics presented their work on Driving Forces of Connectivity (1)and the Development of Interregional Production Network between the European Union and Asia (2).

The workshop builds upon ongoing cooperative research of the Jean Monnet EU Centre of Excellence at Korea University with Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (Republic of Korea), the Department of World Economy and European Integration at Maria Curie Sklodowska University (Poland), EU Center in Singapore at Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), Ruhr-Universität Bochum (Germany), and Uppsala University (Sweden). The activity is designed to strengthen transregional and intra-European research activities, bringing together different research approaches from various Asian and European countries and actors.

The European-Asian Research Network on Strategies for Promoting Europe-Asia Connectivity (SPEAC) is supported by the European Union under Erasmus+ (2019-2022) and furthers the development of a Europe-Asia research network on strategies for promoting connectivity between Europe and Asia.

SPEAC contributes to establishing and developing a comprehensive research network that assesses three significant areas of connectivity between Europe and Asia, i.e., economy and trade, politics and security, and people-to-people and the rule of law. All research activities contribute to exploring the contextualization, challenges, and opportunities of EU-Asia connectivity and developing respective policy recommendations.
