Support for people with disabilities

At UMCS, there is a Team for the Support of People with Disabilities, whose mission is to integrate people with disabilities with the academic community, equalize educational opportunities, eliminate barriers and counteract exclusion, as well as to adapt the teaching process to students / PhD students with various health-related needs.

- As soon as I applied for studies, the lady from the dean's office told me that there was an office to apply to. Here I got all the necessary information, technical support in the form of computers, enlargers, and a laptop. I also found out what my rights are. I also received help from a psychologist. All this allowed me to develop myself. My disability is that I cannot see in one eye and very poorly in the other because of the brain tumour I have had. I believe that life is so short that it is worth doing something about it - whether for yourself or others. It is worth using them as much as possible. Even though I cannot see, I can learn to do something, to get where no one has gone before. In a word: act - says the student Hubert Stolarski.

- The team for supporting people with disabilities has 12 years of history. We have managed to achieve a lot and change a lot during this time, but most of all, expand the support offered for students and doctoral students of our Alma Mater. We strive to ensure that this offer always responds to new needs, new problems and situations that also surprise us. We try to measure the support we offer to your needs and expectations - says Barbara Zych-Pasek from the Team for Supporting People with Disabilities.

We invite you to watch the fifth episode of a special series of films, which was created to popularize knowledge about the functioning of barriers and psychological support for people with disabilities.

The initiative contributes to the social inclusion of people with disabilities. This is a significant issue, especially since the members of the UMCS academic community and the academic community of Lublin are also students and employees with various disabilities.

The material was prepared by the team of the UMCS Press Center in cooperation with the UMCS Training and Support Center.

The implementation is co-financed by the Disabled Persons Support Fund.
