NEW LIBRARY SYSTEM INAUGURATED AT UMCS

The modern Alma library system with the Primo search engine has been implemented in the UMCS Library. These tools give access to some of the best book collections in the world, such as those at Harvard or Oxford University. The official inauguration of the initiative took place on November 24 this year in the building of the Main Library.

The UMCS main library has installed the modern Alma library system with the Primo search engine. The official inauguration of the initiative took place on November 24 this year in the building of the Main Library. It was attended by the Vice-Rector for General Affairs of UMCS dr hab. Arkadiusz Bereza, prof. The university library management: Dr. Bogusław Kasperek and Urszula Postępa, as well as employees of the unit and invited guests.

Thanks to the new system, the academic community of the university will have quick access to information about the library's collections and the combined catalogs of the National Library - a database containing over 25 million collection units and updated with new publications on a daily basis. The implementation will translate into an increase in the quality of reader service, a reduction of costs related to the maintenance of IT infrastructure and optimization of librarians' working time.

The new online catalog is available at  catalog.umcs.lublin.pl also via mobile devices. The Primo search engine has many useful functionalities, including: quick and intuitive search for all types of publications, checking the availability of collections in the UMCS Library and libraries located throughout Poland, narrowing down the search results through convenient filters, ordering publications to a selected library or its branch, the ability to receive e-mail notifications about the availability of books, checking the status of your orders, self-renewal of borrowed publications, saving the history of borrowing, creating personalized bibliographies, creating lists such as lists of books read or to be read, or tagging publications according to individual needs.

All costs of implementation and maintenance of the system are covered by the National Library - the operator of Priority 1. The direction of Intervention 1.2. Building a nationwide library network through an integrated library resource management system of the Multiannual Program "National Reading Development Program 2.0 for 2021-2025". The implementation of the Alma system and the online catalog in the UMCS Library was carried out by the National Library.
