We are happy to announce that a unique place has been created on the premises of our Faculty and the Institute - the Herbal Garden. It is located next to the greenhouse in the areas facing ul. Głęboka, and in order to create it, previously undeveloped wasteland was used

Work on the creation of an educational herbal garden began in the fall of 2020. Then the works were carried out to clean up the area nearby, and the first plantings were planted.

Plant compositions in the herb garden have been arranged in such a way as to ensure the continuity of flowering throughout the growing season. The project provides annual plantings, perennials and shrubs that will remind you of the natural rhythm of life: birth, development, maturation, and menopause. A special place in the garden will have medicinal plants representing various botanical families entered on the lists of pharmacopoeial species and those used in alternative medicine. There will also be typically ornamental species that bloom in spring and autumn.

Plantings will include plant species that will provide materials for laboratory classes for our students, demonstrations for groups visiting our Faculty and research conducted by University employees.

Due to the ever-worsening situation related to the decline in pollinating insects, we want to plant as many fruit plants as possible and install a small insect hotel. This will help educate and spread knowledge and opportunities to improve the food base of pollinators.

At the same time, we would like to encourage you to vote for our entry into the competition to create a pollinator-friendly garden. In order to vote, just like the comment added by the Fanpage of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology of UMCS at this link.

Further work on the garden and its development can be followed on a specially created website of the Herbal Garden.
