Final of the 2nd edition of the "Cosmic Challenge" program

On 17th May 2021, at the Institute of Computer Science of Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin, with the Vice-Rector for Students and Quality of Education, prof. Dr hab. Dorota Kołodyńska and the remote participation of the Ambassador of Belgium in Poland - Mr Luc Jacobs, the Final of the 2nd edition of the "Cosmic Challenge" program took place.

The current edition was addressed to high school students from all over Poland. As part of the first stage, it was necessary to write a thesis on "Where should the first permanent base on Mars be established and why?".

The jury composed of:

  • Dr Anna Łosiak (Institute of Geological Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences - Content Supervisor of the 2nd edition of the program)
  • Prof. Jarosław Dudka, (Medical University of Lublin)
  • Ms Anna Bukowska (UMCS / UMCS Children's University)
  • Ms Marzena Strok - Sadło (Lublin Medicine Cluster / City of Lublin)
  • Mr. Krzysztof Czart (European Southern Observatory / URANIA)
  • Ms Izabela Leszczyńska (Space Research Center of the Polish Academy of Sciences)
  • Mr Michał Pilecki (Polish Space Agency)
  • Mr Robert Lubański (MARS Society Polska)

chose 3 winners:

  • 1st place: Mr. Geralt Wawrzynkiewicz - Raźny (Kazimierz Jagiellończyk High School No. 1 in Sieradz)
  • 2nd place: Mrs. Aleksandra Walczybok (Tadeusz Kościuszko High School No. 1 in Wieluń)
  • 3rd place: Mr. Paweł Rok (1 SLO with branches with the International Baccalaureate "Raszyńska" in Warsaw)

The prize for the winners of the second edition of the program is a trip to the ESA - European Space Agency - European Space Security and Education Center in Red.

The program is under the honorary patronage of the Polish Space Agency, the Space Research Center of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Foundation of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Belgian Embassy in Poland, the Medical University of Lublin, the Lublin Medicine Cluster, the Polish Space Professionals Association, the Space Industry Employers' Association, MARS Society Polska and the media patronage of Dziennik Wschodni, Urania, Astronomia24 and Radio Lublin. The supporting institution for the program is Maria Curie-Skłodowska University.
