FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT

  Dear Sir or Madam,

  You are cordially invited to participate in the First International Congress of Non-Formal Education: "Life-long CreActivity", which will take place in Lublin on 12-14 June 2023. The Congress is being held as part of the initiatives related to the prestigious title of the European Youth Capital 2023 awarded to the City of Lublin. It is addressed to a wide range of professionals involved in the theory and practice of non-formal education, including representatives of non-governmental organisations, learners, teachers, academics and members of other research establishments or representatives of cultural institutions.
  The congress will be held in a hybrid format (some sessions will be streamed online). The main events will be translated into English and into Polish Sign Language.

The key objectives of the Congress are:

  • cross-sectoral debate on the scope, forms, and functions of non-formal education in Poland and worldwide;
  • creation of a platform for cooperation between actors in non-formal education (youth, universities, NGOs, educational establishments, local government, cultural institutions) on an international and local level;
  • developing recommendations for education policy;
  • popularisation of non-formal education methods and their use in educational practice;
  • presentation of good practices in the field of non-formal education implemented in Poland and abroad.

  The programme of the Congress will include, among others, workshops and NGO stands, presentations of good practices, study visits and the book stands.
The event is held under the honorary patronage of Dr Krzysztof Żuk, Mayor of the City of Lublin and His Magnificence Rector of Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, Prof. dr hab. Radosław Dobrowolski.
  The Congress will include an International Conference on the 'Socio-cultural dimension of non-formal education' under the auspices of the Committee of Pedagogical Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The introductory lecture, entitled. "Youth, multiculturalism, non-formal education - local and global contexts" will be delivered by Prof. dr hab. Zbyszko Melosik. The plenary session will also feature lectures delivered by: Prof. dr hab. Agnieszka Gromkowska-Melosik; Dr hab. Sylwia Słowińska, prof. UZ and Prof. dr hab. Roman Leppert.

The proceedings will take place in three thematic sections:

  • IDENTITY - INTERCULTURALISM - INTEGRATION – English language section (Section Chair: Prof. Agnieszka Gromkowska-Melosik);
  • ANIMATION - LOCALISM - LIFELONG LEARNING (Section Chair: Professor Sylwia Słowińska);
  • EDUCATION - YOUTH - SOCIAL MEDIA (Section Chair: Professor Roman Leppert).

Sections’ proceedings are intended to serve the exchange of experiences in the field of theory and practice of non-formal education in the context of substantive examples of community activation in Poland and abroad.

Proposed subject areas:

  • young people as recipients and creators of non-formal education;
  • the intercultural context of non-formal education;
  • non-formal education as a tool for social inclusion;
  • social networks as a place for informal/non-formal education;
  • cultural institutions as spaces for informal education;
  • the relationships between formal and non-formal education;
  • non-formal education practices in Poland, Europe and worldwide;
  • trends in non-formal education (e.g., Outdoor education, Youth work, social animation);
  • the future of non-formal education.

12 June (Monday): Study visits, NGO Fair

15.00 – 18.00 – Study visits to institutions and organisations dealing with non-formal education (incl. outdoor education, civic education, socio-cultural animation, intercultural integration, youth activities)

CONFERENCE FEE:
Registration fee: 50 PLN
The organisers provide: conference materials, catering (coffee breaks, lunch on the first and second day, dinner on the first and second day), free public transport. The fee does not include the cost of travel, accommodation, and breakfasts. Learners and students are free of charge.

PUBLICATIONS:
The aftermath of the Congress will include scientific and methodological publications:

  • for practitioners: "Toolbox of non-formal education" - a book publication presenting good practices in the field of non-formal education;
  • for teachers: a special issue of the journal „Studia Kulturowo-Edukacyjne” (Cultural and Educational Studies) on reflections on non-formal education;
  • for research and teaching staff: thematic sections in peer-reviewed scientific journals (70-pointed).
