Już dziś, 13 września zapraszamy na wykład światowej sławy filologa, asyriologa i kuratora Muzeum Brytyjskiego dr. Irvinga Leonarda Finkela.
W ramach „Ogrodów podróży” odbędzie się wykład dr. Irvinga Leonarda Finkela pt. Mesopotamian Travel Gardens. Dr Finkel specjalizuje się w rozszyfrowywaniu pisma klinowego z czasów starożytnej Mezopotamii. W 2009 r. odczytał spisaną 3600 lat temu na glinianych tabliczkach historię, z której wywodzi się mit o Arce Noego. Okazało się, że 60 wersów zawierało nowe, nieznane dotąd szczegóły o potopie. Swoje sensacyjne odkrycie opisał w książce The Ark Before Noah: Decoding the Story of the Flood (publikacja została wydana także w języku polskim pt. Przed Arką Noego. Nowa opowieść o Potopie).

Dr Irving Leonard Finkel (born 1951) is a British philologist and Assyriologist. He is Senior Assistant Keeper in the Department of the Middle East in the British Museum, where he reads ancient Sumerian and Babylonian cuneiform inscriptions on tablets of clay from ancient Mesopotamia, with particular emphasis on magic and medicine and literature. He is a specialist in ancient board games, and writes books for adults, such as The Ark Before Noah, and The First Ghosts, and for children. He is the Founder of the Great Diary Project, which rescues manuscript diaries for the future. He lives in London with his wife Joanna and has five children.
