"Welcome Party" - 28.10.2021

On 28 October 2021, the Faculty of Political Science and Journalism at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University hosted the “Welcome Party” – an integration and welcome event for foreign students beginning their education at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University. The meeting was already the seventh such event organised at our Alma Mater since 2015.

This year's “Welcome Party” was numerously attended by students of the Medical Biology BSc programme. The first recruitment for this specialisation (analogical to the Polish-language specialization “biologia medyczna”) took place four years ago. Currently, in all three years of Medical Biology studies, there are 23 students from 19 countries in the world (Bangladesh, Burma, Burundi, China, Ghana, Greece, India, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Congo, Kosovo, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Ukraine, Vietnam, Zimbabwe, United Arab Emirates, and .... Poland).

The “Welcome Party” began with speeches delivered by representatives of the authorities of the UMCS and the authorities of the Faculty of Political Science and Journalism as well as representatives of both students and graduates. Mariam from Tanzania – this year's alumna of Medical Biology, the first in the history of our Faculty – spoke on behalf of the graduates.

In the second artistic part of the event, students from Belarus, Ukraine, and several African countries presented themselves to the gathered participants. Two Medical Biology students – Mariam from Tanzania and Jimmy from Kenya – performed in a dance show combining some dance styles from central and southern Africa. You can watch the entire dance here.

The last but not least part of the meeting was a reception where the, English-speaking students from all faculties had the opportunity to meet and talk to each other in a friendly atmosphere.
