On June 23, the Rector, prof. dr hab. Radosław Dobrowolski received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Rwanda in Poland, prof. Anastase Shyaka. The meeting was initiated by Dr. Konrad Czernichowski, assistant professor at the Department of World Economy and European Integration. The meeting was also attended by Dr. Ewelina Panas, Rector's Rector`s Proxy for internationalization.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the possibilities of cooperation between Rwandan academic centers and UMCS in the field of teaching and science.
After the meeting with the Rector, the Ambassador paid a visit to the UMCS Welcome Center, and the Dean of the Faculty of Economics, dr hab. Mariusz Kicia presented the infrastructure of the Faculty, including the rooms in which the Data Science course, conducted in English and aimed mainly at foreign students.
Another point of the visit at UMCS was the meeting of the Ambassador with Rwandan students staying in Lublin, which took place in the Hall II at the Faculty of Economics. The stay in Lublin ended the official visit of the Ambassador to the Lublin City Hall.
Ambassador Anastase Shyakaje is a graduate of Polish universities: the Warsaw University of Technology, the Business School of the Warsaw University of Technology and the University of Gdańsk. In Rwanda, he held the functions of, inter alia, Minister of Local Government, CEO of the Rwanda Governance Board in Kigali, and director of the Conflict Management Center of the National University of Rwanda-Butare. He is an academic lecturer fluent in Polish, French and English.
