Teaching cooperation within the Union of Lublin Universities

The Union of Lublin Universities was established by agreement of three universities: the University of Life Sciences in Lublin, Maria Curie-Skłodowska University and the Lublin University of Technology at the end of the year 2017. It aims to optimize the use of the resources of universities forming the Association by supporting the implementation of joint tasks, including research and development, teaching, commercialization of research results and dissemination of the achievements of science, culture and technology. This cooperation strengthens Lublin's position as an academic city. Formally, the Medical University of Lublin joined the Union of Lublin Universities in June this year too.

We are pleased to announce that on 20th July this year, a teaching cooperation agreement was signed between the members of the Association: Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin, Lublin University of Technology and the University of Life Sciences in Lublin.

During the meeting, universities were represented by:

  • prof. dr hab. Radosław Dobrowolski, Rector of UMCS,
  • prof. dr hab. Dorota Kołodyńska, Vice-Rector for Students and Quality of Education at UMCS,
  • dr hab. Eng. Paweł Droździela, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs of the Lublin University of Technology,
  • prof. dr hab. Eng. Wojciech Franus, Vice-Rector for Science at the Lublin University of Technology,
  • prof. dr hab. Krzysztof Kowalczyk, Rector of the University of Life Sciences in Lublin,
  • dr hab. Urszula Kosior-Korzecka, prof. of universities, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Teaching at the University of Life Sciences in Lublin.

As part of the agreement, the universities defined the principles of cooperation between the parties in the preparation and conduct of joint didactic initiatives, including the field of study, joint lectures, training, workshops, webinars, etc.

Rector of UMCS prof. Radosław Dobrowolski emphasized: “The program of our cooperation, which we have been trying to implement from the beginning of this term of office, results in new agreements. This today is one concerns cooperation in the field of teaching (...). However, in a moment, we will also want to boast about building good relations and practices regarding research and international cooperation, implementations and the business-related sphere, and cooperation with the external environment. "

As added by the Rector of the University of Life Sciences in Lublin, prof. Krzysztof Kowalczyk - didactic cooperation has been functioning between Lublin universities for many years: “(...) but at the moment we are signing an agreement that will formally formalize these matters. Thanks to this, we will be able to significantly strengthen and accelerate certain activities in teaching, to the benefit of our universities, but above all, students. We want them to obtain the best possible competencies and find the job offers that are the most interesting and useful for them. "

Prof. Dorota Kołodyńska from UMCS said that the teams have been working for several months to develop new fields of study. Currently, such novelties are being developed in every university - they will be general academic 1st cycle studies conducted in English. At Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, there is a program called Sustainable development management. The University of Life Sciences in Lublin is preparing a major in Management in smart agriculture, and the Lublin University of Technology - industrial design. As emphasized by the Vice-Rector for Student Affairs of the Lublin University of Technology, dr hab. Eng. Paweł Droździel - “Teams have been established, and we are working on what is the clue of the matter for each direction, that is, learning outcomes and subjects. We want to open them for new recruitment on 1st October 2022 ”.

Prof. Kołodyńska added that the plans also include a fourth field of study, currently pursued by universities - Protection of intellectual property: "The other fields of study (...) are created as part of the cooperation, but are embedded in individual universities. On the other hand, intellectual property protection will be our common direction to which we will have common rights. "
