The international comparative approach

Lublin, 4-5 June 2020

Institute of Social Communication and Media Science - Maria Curie-Skłodowska University

Research section: Mediatization – Polish Communication Association

The theory of mediatization belongs to the most influential research streams in contemporary media and communication studies. The explanatory power of mediatization lies in its ability to capture the media related transformation which takes place in almost every domain of private and public life. Thus, within the last 20 years, the mediatization research gained the status of the one of the most ambitious and dynamic fields of social sciences. While explaining the specificity of mediatization (meta)processes it is claimed that media communication becomes increasingly advanced (in terms of media technology and the number of communication channels), takes place continuously (in different forms) and encompasses more and more research questions. Consequently, the goal of this discussion is to deepen and widen our understanding of mediatization processes in different national contexts.
