Pollinator Group Meeting in Warsaw

On March 27-28, 2025, the third meeting of the Pollinator Group was held at the Ministry of Climate and Environment in Warsaw as part of the "Partnership: Environment for Development" project . The main goal of the meeting was to continue work on the draft national strategy for the protection of wild pollinators, including planning activities and education for their protection.

The first day of the meeting began with a presentation by Dr. Hab. Aneta Ptaszyńska, prof. UMCS, who discussed the EU arrangements for monitoring pollinators. She presented a proposal for the EU Pollinator Monitoring Scheme, which consists of three main and three additional modules covering different groups of pollinating insects (wild bees, butterflies and hoverflies). The presentation also addressed methodological issues, various challenges related to the implementation of the monitoring system and possible solutions to these problems. Then Dr. Anna Rysiak addressed issues related to problems related to invasive organisms in Poland.

The meeting continued with examples of pollinator monitoring activities in various European countries, including Estonia, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Italy and the Netherlands. Different methodological approaches, the scope of monitored species and the organisation of monitoring systems in individual countries were presented. In the case of Poland, information was presented on butterfly monitoring conducted by the Chief Inspectorate for Environmental Protection as part of the Species and Habitats Monitoring Programme.

During the meeting, projects prepared by the task forces concerning various aspects of pollinator protection were also discussed, including education and communication, agricultural areas, protected areas, forest areas and urbanized areas.

The meeting was an important element in the process of creating a national strategy for the protection of pollinating insects in Poland, taking into account the experiences and solutions used in other European countries.
