SESS annual report on Svalbard monitoring studies

We are pleased to inform that with the author's assistance of Dr. hab. Piotr Zagórski, Prof. UMCS (Department of Geomorphology and Palaeogeography MCSU) the annual report The State of Environmental Sciencein Svalbard - an annual report was published by the Svalbard Integrated Arctic Earth Observing System (SIOS), edited by M. Moreno-Ibáñez, J.O.M. Hagen, Ch. Hübner, H. Lihavainen and A. Zaborska.

Svalbard Integrated Arctic Earth Observing System (SIOS) is an international multidisciplinary research infrastructure in and around Svalbard. SIOS focuses on long-term monitoring of key variables in the Arctic to observe, attribute and describe the effects of global environmental and climate change. SIOS entered into the operational phase in 2018 with a mission to develop an efficient observing system; to share technology, experience, and data; to close knowledge gaps, and to decrease the environmental footprint of science. The annual SESS report is one tool to fulfil this mission. The SESS report is a way to guide development of the observing system; the recommendations in the SESS reports are used to identify research needs, gaps in observations, and new techniques and methods that can improve and optimise the research infrastructure.

Dr hab. Piotr Zagórski, prof. UMCS is a co-author of the chapter Scientific Applications of Unmanned Vehicles in Svalbard (UAV Svalbard) (Hann Richard, Altstädter Barbara, Betlem Peter, Deja Kajetan, Dragańska-Deja Katarzyna, Ewertowski Marek, Hartvich Filip, Jonassen Marius, Lampert Astrid, Laska Michał, Sobota Ireneusz, Storvold Rune, Tomczyk Aleksandra, Wojtysiak Kacper, Zagórski Piotr). This chapter provides an overview of research conducted with unmanned vehicles moving in air, water and under water. The main focus is on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
