A new academic sports season 2016/2017 was opened on 20th October during the annualUniversity Sport Gala held at the Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw. Every year, members of the University Sport Association of Poland (AZS) gather together to summarise academic competition, held within the framework of Polish University Championships, and celebrate the beginning of the new sports season.
We are pleased to announce that Maria Curie-Skłodowska University was ranked as second among Polish universities and sixth in the general classification of Polish University Championships.
The authorities of UMCS were honoured with awards at the sport gala:
the Rector of Maria Curie-Skłodowska University prof. dr hab. Stanisław Michałowski,
the head of the AZS UMCS Sport Club – Dariusz Gaweł,
the head of the Academic Sports Centre at UMCS – Tomasz Bielecki.
Paweł Markiewicz, the creator of Lublin’s Centre for Sports Documentation at UMCS, received the Eugeniusz Pietrasik Award.
Many thanks to our students, sportsmen and sportswomen, who proudly represented UMCS at the Polish University Championships in the previous sports season.
