June 23rd this year in the Senate Room of the University of Life Sciences in Lublin, in the presence of the media, a letter of intent on cooperation was signed between the Union of Lublin Universities, represented by the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, University of Life Sciences and the Lublin University of Technology - and the Medical University of Lublin.
The meeting was attended by representatives of rector and chancellor authorities of all Lublin public universities, including prof. Radosław Dobrowolski - rector of the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, dr hab. Dariusz Czerwiński - Vice-Rector for General Affairs and Development of the Lublin University of Technology, prof. Krzysztof Kowalczyk - Rector of the University of Life Sciences, prof. Wojciech Załuska - rector of the Medical University and Fr. prof. Mirosław Kalinowski - rector of the Catholic University of Lublin. Moreover, UMCS was represented by: vice-rector for development and cooperation with the economy - prof. Zbigniew Pastuszak, Vice-Rector for Science and International Cooperation - prof. Wiesław I. Gruszecki, vice-rector. For student affairs and education quality - prof. Dorota Kołodyńska, chancellor - mgr Grażyna Elżbieta Fiok, director of the ECOTECH-COMPLEX Centre - prof. Ryszard Naskręcki.
As pointed out by the Rector of the City Hall, the partnership of Lublin universities is essential and has been tightened for a long time. - Our university has been cooperating with other universities in Lublin for years - in the field of science, we conduct diverse and interesting projects. The time has come to formalize these relationships. As a university, we set ourselves specific tasks, and we have many new ideas regarding our cooperation.
The UMCS Rector emphasized the importance of this synergy. - The goal of ZUL is, among others raising the level of Lublin universities in the field of science and research, teaching, organization and culture and sports. Our cooperation is developing precisely in these areas. Soon, it is planned, among others launching inter-university study programs. So let's act under a common banner - he said.
The rector of the Catholic University of Lublin and the vice-rector of PL also took the floor, agreeing that the Lublin community is at the stage of development serving all universities, and the key is to use the hidden potentials of each unit. Thanks to this, it will be possible to obtain external funds to implement joint projects effectively. Summing up, the Rector of the UP emphasized that - building a strong Lublin research centre is the goal of the cooperation undertaken, thanks to which these activities will raise the prestige and scientific position of individual universities.
The Union of Lublin Universities was established on 18th December 2017, by agreement of three universities: the University of Life Sciences in Lublin, Maria Curie-Skłodowska University and Lublin University of Technology. The Association's activities aim to optimize the use of the resources of the Universities forming the Association by supporting the implementation of joint tasks. ZUL gives better opportunities to carry out scientific research and development work by creating consortia, joint research centres, laboratories, supporting the commercialization of research results, disseminating and multiplying achievements in the field of science, national culture and technology, including by collecting and sharing library and information collections, cooperation in the field of publishing of the University and activities for the local and regional community.
