During the COVID-19 epidemic, games such as Animal Crossing: New Horizons offered comfort and a sense of belonging to the community. Exploration and immersion are essential elements of many modern games. Nicolle Lamerichs will discuss virtual tourism and gaming space in this lecture, using examples such as Animal Crossing, Gris, and The Stanley Parable.

• Can deconstruction and disturbance of space enrich the experience?

Dr Nicolle Lamerichs is a Senior Lecturer and Team Leader for Creative Business at HU University of Applied Sciences in Utrecht. He holds a PhD in media studies from Maastricht University (2014). In his book Productive Fandom (2018), he discusses intermedia, effects, disguise, and fan cultures' creativity. Her current research concerns the culture of participation and new media platforms, especially concerning identity, narrative, and play.
