Doctoral Studies in Political Science

Candidates are invited to four-year Doctoral (Ph.D.) Program in Political Science with English as the language of instruction. Program is offered by Faculty of Political Science at the Marie Curie-Skłodowska University's (UMCS) in Lublin.  

Candidates are welcome from all over the world, both Polish and non-Polish nationals.  Different admission rules apply depending on candidate’s country of origin and educational background.

Entry requirements

The program is offered to:

  • Holders of an M.A. or an equivalent degree in humanities and social sciences obtained from a higher-education institution in Poland or in other countries.
  • Holders of M.A. degrees in other disciplines can also apply.  
The candidates should also present research and teaching achievements from previous university programs or professional work ( publications, participation in conferences, activities in academic clubs and academic teams), social activities ( work in student government, participation in non-government organizations), additional language and professional qualifications.


English language requirements Very good command of English is necessary (European B+ level). Candidate should provide a certificate of English language command on a B2+ level. Candidates whose mother tongue is English or candidate who are graduates of a master’s program taught in English are exempted.  If the candidate is not able to supply a certificate Chairperson of the Recruitment Commission will organize an interview with the candidate to assess candidate’s fluency in English. 
Number of places available There are 10 places available in 2017. The Program will start if 5 or more candidates qualify. UMCS Rector can decide  (following Dean’s motion) to start the program even when there is a smaller number of successful candidates.
