INSURANCE

Poland has the health care system based on general health insurance. The National Health Fund (NFZ-Narodowy Fundusz Zdrowia) is the institution, which is responsible for assuring health services for insured persons. Persons covered by general health insurance are entitled to free health services (primary and specialist health care, hospital treatment, rescue services and ambulance transport) at the health care providers who have concluded contracts with NFZ.

Students from EU countries are entitled to free health services (at health care providers who have concluded a relevant contract with NFZ) on the basis of the European Health Insurance Card.

Students from non-EU countries are advised to purchase health and accident insurance for the period of their visit to Poland while still in their home countries. They also have an option of joining the public health insurance plan operated by NFZ. They should submit a written application and attach certification of student status from the host university. In Lublin NFZ office is located at ul. Koryznowej 2d. Monthly premiums are charged for insurance.

Paid health services are available in private and public health care providers.
