6th edition of Sentimental Metamorphoses Festival

The 6th edition of Sentimental Metamorphoses festival was held in Chatka Żaka between 31st March and 1st April 2017. The festival is an annual event honouring the life and music of the singer, composer and lyricist, Jacek Kaczmarski.

During the first days of spring, the academic cultural centre of UMCS was once again home to admirers and authors of music and poetry.

This year, a new addition to the festival has been introduced, the Open Stage Metamorphoses – a song contest for foreigners studying and living in Poland. The new initiative aims at promoting Polish poetic song among international students and offers the possibility for mutual exchange of cultural experience.

The first edition of the Open Stage contest attracted artists from across the world (Lithuania, Indonesia, France, Ukraine, USA, Zimbabwe), who prepared two songs, one in their native languageand one in Polish.

With such a diverse multicultural group it was difficult to highlight one performance. Each performance created its own highlights. The Jury, presided by Professor Urszula Bobryk, announced Katažyna Šidlovska (Lithuania)-Błażej Ludwiczuk and Kateryna Kozlova (Ukraine) as joint winners of the contest. The 10cza trio: Delphine Wartelle (France-USA), Nolwazi Mhodi (Zimbabwe) and Krzysztof Romankiewicz were second.

The prize of PLN 5000 was split between all the contestants with the winners invited to perform at the Festival Laureates’ Concert Sentimental Metamorphoses, the grand final of the festival.
