2017/18 Scholarship Awards Ceremony

The Own Scholarship Fund of the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University was created in the academic year 2016/17 as an additional support offered to those students who present a particularly high level of academic excellence or distinguish themselves with other outstanding achievements.

During the scholarship awards ceremony held on 1st December 2017 in the Media-Artistic Incubator all scholarship recipients (UMCS students and PhD candidates) were awarded certificates of achievement by the Rector, prof. dr hab. Stanisław Michałowski, and the Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, prof. dr hab. Urszula Bobryk.

Grants were awarded in four categories:

1) Scholarship for academic excellence;
2) Art scholarship;
3) Sports scholarship;
4) Scholarship for social engagement/community service.

Out of 230 applications submitted, 95 students and 5 PhD candidates at UMCS were granted scholarships of gross value PLN 4,000 each. Disbursements of scholarships will be divided into two equal instalments (paid by the end of December 2017 and by the end of June 2018 respectively). The value of the scholarship award has increased to PLN 4,000 gross, compared to PLN 2,770 gross in the previous academic year.

In the 2017/18 selection round first-year students of bachelor’s degree and long-cycle programmes received awards for their accomplishments during secondary education. Among scholarship beneficiaries, there are 21 students in their first year of study who received awards for their academic performance in secondary education.

International students studying on a fee-paying basis were also eligible to apply. This year, more scholarships have been offered for excellence in sports, with grants awarded separately to 1-year bachelor’s degree and long-cycle students ranked high (I-III position) in national or international sports competitions.

The Own Scholarship Fund of UMCS has been created in accordance with the policy for quality assurance within higher education institutions, adopted by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. This new scholarship fund is designed to attract the best secondary school graduates, reward outstanding students and PhD candidates at UMCS, enhance the quality of education, encourage scientific, artistic and sports development of youth, as well as support international students enrolled on a fee-paying basis.

Applications for the second edition of the Own Scholarship Fund of UMCS were submitted between 18th and 27th October 2017. Scholarship grants are offered from own resources of the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin.
