O sobie

Wieslaw Krajka is a Professor Ordinarius (profesor zwyczajny) in the English Department at Maria Curie-Sklodowska University in Lublin, Poland; he is the Head of Conrad Studies Centre in this Department. He is also a professor at Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce. He was a Visiting Professor (five times) at University of Minnesota Minneapolis, University of Illinois at Chicago, and University of Rochester New York.


Działalność naukowa

Professor Wieslaw Krajka's research covers mainly English nineteenth- and twentieth-century literature (especially Joseph Conrad), literary theory, and comparative literature. His extensive scholarly publications list seven authored books, including Isolation and Ethos: A Study of Joseph Conrad (Boulder: East European Monographs; New York: Columbia University Press, 1992), Joseph Conrad: konteksty kulturowe (Lublin: Uniwersytet Marii Curie-Sklodowskiej, 1995), Izolacja i etos. Studium o twórczości Josepha Conrada (Wrocław: Zakład Narodowy im. Ossolińskich, 1988), On the Analysis of the Literary Text (Warszawa: Państwowe Wydawnictwo Naukowe, 1984, co-author: Andrzej Zgorzelski). He is the Editor of the series: Conrad: Eastern and Western Perspectives, published by East European Monographs/Social Science Monographs, Boulder, and Maria Curie-Sklodowska University, Lublin (till 2013) and by Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, Lublin (since 2014), and distributed by Columbia University Press, New York (25 volumes published to date). Within this series he was the sole editor of volumes 8 (Joseph Conrad: East European, Polish and Worldwide), 13 (A Return to the Roots: Conrad, Poland and East-Central Europe), 14 (Beyond the Roots: The Evolution of Conrad’s Ideology and Art), 18 (Joseph Conrad: Between Literary Techniques and Their Messages), 19 (In the Realms of Biography, Literature, Politics and Reception: Polish and East-Central European Joseph Conrad),22 (From Szlachta Culture to the 21st Century, Between East and West. New Essays on Joseph Conrad's Polishness), 23 ("Wine in Old and New Bottles": Critical Paradigms for Joseph Conrad), and a co-editor of volumes 1 (Conrad’s Literary Career), 2 (Contexts for Conrad), 10 (Conrad at the Millennium: Modernism, Postmodernism, Postcolonialism) and 11 (Conrad in Africa: New Essays on “Heart of Darkness”). He was the principal organiser of six international Conrad conferences at Maria Curie-Sklodowska University in Lublin, Poland (in 1991, 1996, 2001, 2006, 2011 and 2016). He is also the Editor of the series Joseph Conrad a Polska, Europa Środkowo-Wschodnia i Swiat published by Maria Curie-Skłodowska University Press, Lublin, in which he edited volumes 1 (Conrad a Polska) and 2 (Polskość i europejskość w Josepha Conrada wizjach historii, polityki i etyki).
